OceanX expanded its partnership with Crayola to launch a special virtual learning session in celebration of World Oceans Day

The global ocean exploration non-profit, OceanX expanded on its partnership with the arts and crafts brand Crayola earlier this month to launch a special virtual-learning event in celebration of World Oceans Day. The Facebook live event – part of Crayola’s The Art of Learning educational series – took place across both OceanX and Crayola Education’s social media channels on 8 June, taking kids and families on an exploration of ocean life. Participants were transported into the depths of the Red Sea with OceanX’s head of science operations, Mattie Rodrigue and his team of scientists currently exploring the aquatic life and unique weather conditions of the region aboard the research vessel, OceanXplorer. The special episode titled The Art of Learning: Ocean Exploration marked an extension of Crayola’s partnership with OceanX that first kicked off in 2021 when OceanX partnered on a national takeover tour of Crayola Experience attractions in the US and saw the launch of its Crayola Experience Home Adventure Kit Ocean Edition. Throughout the episode, OceanX’s Rodrigue and other onboard scientists answered questions about sea life, coral reefs, brine pools, and shared insights into OceanX’s deep-sea technology. This was followed by a session from Crayola Education’s manager and artist James Wells who showed viewers how to create artwork inspired by the coral reefs in the Red Sea using Crayola Watercolour Paint, Washable Project Paint, crayons, and a sponge. “OceanX is thrilled to continue our partnership with Crayola with this exciting virtual event,” said Mark Dalio, founder and co-ceo of OceanX. “Crayola and OceanX are both dedicated to pushing creative boundaries and expanding the collective imagination. We invite young explorers and their families to discover the uncharted  and largely unexplored world of the deep sea with us on World Oceans Day.” The event can now be accessed on-demand via Crayola Education and OceanX social channels. Crayola’s The Art of Learning virtual series celebrates the many ways children use art to explore topics such as science, storytelling, coding, music, and more through hands-on learning sessions. Free episodes air each month on the Crayola Education Facebook page and include short question and answer sessions with topic experts. “Art is a way of learning,” said Cheri Sterman, director, Crayola Education. “When children engage in hands-on art making, they develop observation and self-expression skills. Every topic can be more deeply understood when children create images or projects based on the new information they have gathered.” The Art of Learning: Ocean Exploration event can be watched on-demand here: https://www.facebook.com/CrayolaEducation/videos/4703419736430342/ OceanX is on a mission to combine cutting-edge science, the next-gen tech onboard its marine research and exploration vessel OceanXplorer, and compelling media to excite, educate, and foster a passion for the world’s oceans.
