LEGO to speak at Sustainability in Licensing Conference

Global toy giant will speak on the need to accelerate the sustainability agenda within licensing at the Sustainability in Licensing Conference (SILC) happening digitally over June 24 – 25. Following on from LEGO’s presentation at the SILC20 conference, the LEGO team will share how its sustainability story has gained momentum and focus over the last year, sharing key themes and deadlines that we must hit as an industry if we are to meet our 2030 goals. LEGO is investing $400 million over the next three years in sustainability and social responsibility initiatives. Two key goals have been set – (1) to have sustainable packaging in all its products by 2025 (including eliminating single use plastic in packaging) and (2) to have sustainable materials in all products by 2030. Some of the initiatives that LEGO is working on include zero waste to landfill by 2025; working towards a circular economy; plus the launch of LEGO Replay in at least three countries (a scheme which gives bricks to children in need of play). In addition, it has also been playing with paper packaging and consumers will start to see these coming through in 2021. Sine Klitgaard Moller, licensing sustainability transformation lead, and Michael Thejl Nielsen, business development director will update attendees at SILC next week (June 24 -25). Other highlights from the agenda include: - Live panel conversation with Recoup, The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Pack IDS about the latest legislation changes that will affect business from April 2022. - Tesco, George at Asda, and Dayrize showcase future innovations and requirements for retail. - Learn how to reduce your scope 3 emissions and production impact through our session on sustainable supply chains. - Learn from the gaming industry on how they are working together to drive social change across the industry. The full line-up of speakers has been announced for the Sustainability in Licensing Conference 2021 – you can view that here.
