Greeting cards made from seeded board

Sheffield-based printers, Loxleys is on a mission to reduce the environmental impact of greeting cards, with its zero-waste range of eco-solutions. Adding to the company’s growing environmental portfolio, Loxleys’ zero-waste collection includes special board, packaging initiatives (including its integrated cardboard Eco-Hook), plastic alternatives (Secure-Seal) and all underpinned by eco production techniques (such as Loxleys Digital’s mineral-based toner). The range includes a 100% compostable and 100% plantable seeded board, made entirely from recycled materials. The seed-embedded board allows consumers to send a card and flowers in one go. All the recipient needs to do is lightly soak the board, plant under soil, and watch their card bloom into wildflowers. While Loxleys is not the first company to offer a seed-embedded board, it is more the fully rounded approach at its heart that is significant. As Alice Buck, Loxleys’ marketing co-ordinator, added “With card sending and receiving so deeply embedded into the British culture, the zero-waste range further encourages sustainable card giving. Each solution within the range is either compostable, recyclable or made from recycled materials (or all three), meaning there is no waste created in the process or left behind afterwards.” Paper Rose is among the first major greeting card publishers to have worked closely with Loxleys on producing a zero-waste card range, taking a holistic approach to the elements involved. Explaining what a zero-waste range means for the Paper Rose team going forward, Sarah Tanser-Frain, the company’s creative studio manager said: “Paper Rose is focused on sustainability and the environment with all our new designs being 100% recyclable, including our new Spring seasons and Christmas ranges, which are printed in the UK at Loxleys. We have spoken with the team at Loxleys at length with regards to recycled board and paper engineering - it’s something we see as key to sustainability of the industry going forward. We have also worked closely with customers on bespoke projects featuring the board.”
