Mondo TV’s MeteoHeroes awarded Green Badge for Sustainable Production

Season two of the hit series, MeteoHeroes has been awarded the green badge known as the seal of sustainable production by the Tenerife Film Commission for its commitment to a minimised carbon footprint.

During the production process, Mondo TV Studios – the studio behind the animated series – carried out a sustainability plan and an environmental management plan. Within the sustainability plan, the company adopted new recycling measures while partnering with the NGO Tree-Nation which helped the company calculate its carbon footprint and offset it.

Mondo TV Studios has since decided to not only offset direct emissions but indirect ones, too, including those linked to business trips or the acquisition of goods.

MeteoHeroes is an environmentally-themed co-production between Mondo TV S.p.A and Meteo Operations Italia (MOPI), Italy’s leading meteorological institute. The series focuses on climate action and the protection of the environment. Each episode is themed around ecology and respect for nature as it follows the adventures of six children who discover they have superpowers through which they can control weather phenomena.

In addition, the show advocates values such as friendship, solidarity, gender equality, teamwork, and inclusion.

The team will be presented with the physical certificate at the next Quirino Awards on Thursday, 11th May.

Maria Bonaria, ceo at Mondo TV Studios, said: “The green seal awarded to MeteoHeroes 2 by the Tenerife Film Commission reaffirms our efforts in compliance with sustainable production standards and certifies our productions as respectful towards the environment.

“In recent months, we have worked on the preparation of a set of actions to be implemented in the different stages of production, aimed mainly at the acquisition of more ecological materials and resources and the implementation of recycling practices.

“We are very proud that content like MeteoHeroes, which bases its important message on caring for our planet, is also associated with the highest standards of sustainable production.”

The Tenerife Film Commission’s seal of sustainable production aims to raise awareness of sustainability in the audio-visual production sector and is awarded based on compliance with a series of items included in a checklist for providers and producers of real images or animation.

It emerged in 2018 when the TFC decided to carry out a strong commitment to implement sustainability practices in accordance with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in the audio-visual production that takes place on the island.
