BioToy Conference 2023 to spotlight sustainability and circularity in the toy industry

BioToy, the international toy trade show dedicated to moving the industry from fossil-based plastics and towards more renewable resources, is making its grand return to the Arvena Park Hotel in Nuremberg for the third year running.

Pioneered by the team behind Germany’s BioPlastics magazine in 2019, the event has, this year, enlisted the influence an insight of Products of Change members and toy industry ‘activists’, Sharon Keilthy and Sonia Sanchez to deliver a robust conference agenda featuring speakers from Hasbro, Mattel, BioBuddi, GeoMag, and more.

Both Sharon Keilthy, owner of the Irish independent eco-friendly toy shop, Jiminy and Sonia Sanchez, author of the Changing the World Toy by Toy whitepaper sit on the Women in Toys Sustainability Learning Community, using insight gained to help shape this year’s event.

Running on the 21 and 22 March, the conference will place emphasis on moving towards better circular economy principles through design and materials used, bringing 25 pioneers in the space to the stage to report on the range of materials, user experiences, and associated goals.

Toy Industries of Europe’s Catherine Van Reeth will be among the speakers to offer their own insight into sustainability within the toy industry, while well-known UK toy industry figure, Elise Hounslow, a senior industrial designer who has invented games for Hasbro, WOW Toys, and IMC Toys, will deliver a talk on design being key to sustainability.

“I’ll be speaking at the upcoming BioToy Conference on 21-22 March to share my view of what designers require from the toy industry to keep driving change and creating successful, eco-friendly products that take toys to the next level – and some of my favourite sustainable toy designs,” said Elise.

“BioToy will be a great chance to refresh your knowledge of the latest materials, circular design principles and tools, and to network and discuss how we can work together to make progress and learn from each other. Whether you’re just dipping your toes into toy sustainability, or are a sustainable plastic fanatic, this conference is for you.”
