Mel Beer, head of license, at the Solent Group, will be representing her products in more ways than one at the Licensing Awards on Tuesday 16th September, by sporting a dress made entirely of licensed reusable bags for life.
After attending the Licensing Awards in 2016 in a dress made from foil balloons during her time at Amscan, Mel Beer is teaming up with Solent Group’s senior designer, Hannah Marshall, to create her latest DIY-ed unconventional get-up for this year’s Licensing Awards.
The sustainability-driven licensee, Solent Group, produces a range of licensed bags for life, including a selection made from up to 100% recycled materials, which is what Mel has decided would make the perfect showstopping Licensing Awards ensemble, befit with a sustainable message.

The outfit has been created using Solent Group’s Rpet and PP Woven bags which feature some of its licenses, including Cath Kidston, Peter Rabbit, and The Snowman, which can be found mainly stocked in Tesco.
Designer, Hannah, comments: “I took a lot of inspiration for the construction of the skirt from Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion sense. I wanted it to feel elevated and thought the fabric would lend itself well to being layered and in a concertina effect. I think the colours and patterns are different but somehow work when all sewn together. The top cape was a bit of an afterthought as I wanted I the top half to be as flashy at the bottom – and I think it really balances it out well.”

Mel adds: “Our bags are extremely strong and made from up to 100% recycled materials and I hope this activity will help drive home the message to reuse and repurpose products we have at home before buying something new.”
So a double pledge for reuse – not buying an outfit new for an event but instead repurposing what you already have, and also a plug for utilising reusable shopping bags!
We can’t wait to see Mel sport this outfit and project at the Licensing Awards on the 16th!
