Oxfam and eBay turn heads to circular style at London Fashion Week

Oxfam turned heads last week when the UK charity organisation partnered with the resell giant, eBay to dress celebrities head to toe in second hand items as part of its Fashion Fighting Poverty 23 show at February’s London Fashion Week.

Love Island 2022 contestant and pre-loved ambassador at eBay UK, Tasha Ghouri walked the catwalk alongside Daisy Lowe to shine a light on all things pre-loved while championing the environmental benefits of circular fashion.

Designer garments from labels including Frank Usher, Ralph Lauren, and Thierry Mugler were worn by model Daisy Lowe, presenter Miquita Oliver, actor Greta Bellamacina, author and eBay ambassador, Aja Barber, and the trainspotting social media star Francis Bourgeois.

Styled by Bay Garnett, a trailblazer in sustainable fashion, each of the looks worked to showcase how pre-loved fashion deserves a place on the centre stage.

The catwalk looks – alongside a special Fashion Fighting Poverty 23 edit – has been made available to purchase on eBay for Charity Auction for the past week, allowing anyone the opportunity to get their hands on the looks from the evening. Prices start at £7.99 and all proceeds from the auction event will raise funds for Oxfam.

The online marketplace, eBay has seen a 1,600% increase in searches for pre-loved clothes in the past year and recently renewed its partnership with Love Island for a second series. The platform offers an Authenticity Guarantee programme which aims to give shoppers confidence when buying pre-loved luxury brands, as well as an Imperfects range which offers clothes, shoes, and accessories from top brands with slight imperfections at a large discount.

Kirsty Keoghan, general manager of Fashion for eBay UK, said: “Championing circular fashion is central to what we do here at eBay, as well as providing a vital fundraising platform for charity partners through eBay for Charity. That’s why partnering with Oxfam, another flagbearer for all things pre-loved, was a no brainer for us this London Fashion Week.

“We’ve done a lot to remove the stigma around preloved clothing and to champion an approach to shopping that’s better for people, the planet, and your pockets. We have a way to go, but I’m delighted we’ve been able to partner with Oxfam to spotlight pre-loved and raise crucial funding in this way.”

Tasha Ghouri, Pre-Loved Ambassador for eBay UK, said: “It’s amazing to see pre-loved clothing in the spotlight, being modelled by such an impressive array of stars, so we can show the possibility of pre-loved clothing.

“Since becoming eBay’s pre-loved ambassador, I’ve learnt so much about the importance of circular fashion and it’s through doing events like this that we’ll continue to raise awareness and overturn the narrative.”
