Reemsborko pays Lush a visit to talk collaboration

Max Arguile, owner of POC member, Reemsborko, visited the Lush HQ in Poole, last week and got stuck in making bath bombs and learning about the brand’s sustainability initiatives.

Reemsborko is a licensing agency which represents properties across pop culture and anime, such as Black Hammer, Baki, Dragon Ball, Boruto, and Bananya.

Max said that he went to visit Lush as he is interested in working with the company for one of his brands. “Hatsune Miku would be fantastic for that, because it would just translate. It has quite a strong female following and it’s very colourful so it fits with what Lush are doing, I think it would be a natural partner.”

But it wasn’t all business talk, Max had a tour of Lush’s handmade bath bomb operation, or what it calls its ‘ballistics department’ and had a go at making some himself, as production ramps up ahead of the Christmas season.

Lush has already been creating an impact in both the brand licensing sector as well as in sustainability. Its ethos of responsible and ethical sourcing of raw ingredients, dedication to sustainability, and environmental and social impact, has seen it develop the Lush Green Hub, its closed-loop recycling system for its packaging, of which only 57% of its products use, the rest is sold ‘naked’ or packaging free.

“When we create licensed products we want to show what can be achieved. Making sure to show our ethics through the products, limit the amount of packaging needed, sourcing materials fairly and still delivering great products.

“We hope this approach encourages others to think about these things and also the consumer to think about it when purchasing licensed products,” said Kalem Brinkworth, Lush collaborations creative lead.

Lush has had previous licensing collaborations that have centred around sustainability, such as its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles range, from Paramount, from which the company’s purchase of the raw materials goes to support local conservation and the restoration of ecosystems and endangered species such as reefs and green turtles.

Max continued that he saw in his visit the scale of the recycling operation at Lush. “They keep everything in case of reuse and always ensure to reuse or recycle what they can. It felt pretty circular.” Max added, “The fact we started the visit in the recycling department shows it was something that they feel very proud of, and rightly so.”

Lush’s sustainability efforts are an attractive part of what the company does to Max. At Reemsborko, they are interested in making the sustainable choices and a collaboration with Lush would further support this agenda. We are looking forward to seeing what could come of this potential collaboration.
