POC Member, Talking Tables, has re-certified as a B Corp with a score of over 100. In 2022, when the company first certified, its score was 87.5. Its new score is 113.2. By Sue Marks, GiftsandHome.net.
“One of the most encouraging takeaways from this process was seeing how many key sustainable principles are now embedded naturally across the whole business, which was always our aim in becoming a B Corp,” comments managing director, Daniel Fagan.
“It’s a big commitment and a time-consuming process becoming and recertifying as a B Corp. There aren’t a large number of B Corps in the giftware industry and we’d like help change that. To this end we held our first B Corp breakfast at our head offices in the autumn and we’ll be repeating this in 2026.”
To celebrate B Corp’s tenth birthday last month, Talking Tables highlighted ten social and environmental initiatives it has introduced:
- Planted 56,324 trees around the word with @ecologi_hq
- Removed single use plastic from all games.
- Introduced totes made from recycled plastic.
- Reduced its gender pay gap to 0.8% – the average is 12.8%.
- All standard napkins are made from recycled paper and are recyclable – as is their packaging.
- Everyone at Talking Tables has two paid volunteer days and last year people volunteered 461 hours.
- Recycling office waste (78% last year), with the remainder used to generate green energy.
- Entertain the local older community with regular Tea at TT afternoon tea parties (pictured).
- Introduced Fragments of Fashion – decorations made from recycled fashion offcuts.
- Every time someone shops at TalkingTables.co.uk the company donates a product – like a set of napkins or some bunting – to a community gathering.
Once again, the company has qualified as a Great Place to Work. Accreditation is based on an independent staff survey and Talking Tables scored a 72% rating. The average UK rating is 54. Great Place to Work status also contributes to a B Corp rating.
