POC Conference presents: A masterclass in storytelling with purpose from Open Planet

Open Planet, an award-winning impact storytelling platform, will be opening the Products of Change Conference this year, gifting attendees with an insight into the impactful role of visual storytelling, and the change that it can, and needs, to inspire.

A good story has the power to inspire, inform, change minds, and bring people together, which is exactly what the Open Planet Group continues to do with its impactful filmography and collection of video footage, all detailing the splendour and fragility of our planet.

Kate Goldman-Toomey, executive director of partnerships at Open Planet, who will be speaking at the opening of the POC Conference on 5 November 2025, gives us a bit more detail on the work of Open Planet and the opportunity it offers to organisations and changemakers.

Created by world-leading filmmakers and scientists, Open Planet films and gathers world-class footage of our changing planet and makes this footage available for anyone to use for free on its open-source library. It empowers and equips storytellers globally with the resources to enact real and widespread impact through their projects, campaigns, and education. And this library continues to grow to cover every issue, every geography, across climate, nature and humanity, as Open Planet works to unlock archives across the globe to build its collection, as well as film new groundbreaking content.

Many of us were inspired and moved by the footage in the recent feature-length documentary, ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’, co-produced by Open Planet Studios, which demonstrated so clearly how reliable, world-class visuals of our planet and the crisis it is in can evoke real change. As David Attenborough says, “the climate crisis is a communication crisis,” and trustworthy, accurate, and striking footage can go a long way in communicating the necessity of faster environmental action.

Open Planet Studios has also been working with POC Member, the Natural History Museum, on its new immersive experience ‘Our Story by David Attenborough,’ which takes visitors on a journey through the lifespan of our planet and our role of stewardship and responsibility.

The world is built on stories, said Kate, and people need to see it to believe it, and hear it from people they know and trust, such as the brands and companies they know and see every day. Brands have an influence over their consumers and the ability to capture them with powerful and impactful stories, as well as the opportunity to use this influence for good. Open Planet is looking to increase its work with brands to expand its reach of communication and impact.

At the POC Conference, Open Planet will give us a taste of the impact it is creating globally through its major productions, but also through its short films and communications for COPs, the World Economic Forum, businesses, brands, and NGOs to support their storytelling and their advocacy.

Join us at the Products of Change Conference for Open Planet to inspire you with the incredible impact already taking place, as well as with the opportunity to undertake such impact initiatives through your company and beyond with the power of really good storytelling.
