Danilo divulges plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050

Danilo Promotions Ltd has set out its ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 by addressing areas including its energy use, its staff commuting activity, the introduction of digital product passports, scope 3 emissions reduction, and a strategic use of offsetting through domestic tree planting.

“We’re not just making small changes – we’re gearing up for transformations that will have a lasting impact,” said Danilo’s senior marketing and sustainability manager, Claire Bates. “Our plan is jam-packed with future-focused initiatives to shrink our carbon footprint and inspire others to follow.”

First on the agenda for Danilo – an active member of the Products of Change Membership community – is its approach to energy use. The business has already installed solar panels on the rooftop of its Waltham Abbey head office but is now introducing a series of energy and heating audits as a means of making its office space more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. On top of this, the company now offers its staff free EV charging with the goal to make it easier and more affordable for employees to make the switch to cleaner, greener transportation.

In this vein, Danilo has installed at-office facilities including showers to better support its Cycle to Work scheme and already reports an uplift in staff opting to choose the bicycle and other more eco-friendly commenting options.

“We’re doing our part to reduce carbon-heavy travel and promote healthy lifestyles,” said Claire.

When it comes to Danilo’s portfolio of products, the team is laying the groundwork for the introduction of digital product passports – a new customer-facing supply chain transparency tool introduced under the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive – in the near future. These digital product passports (DPP) will give customers clear insights into the environmental footprint of Danilo’s products, from hitting sustainability reporting criteria points such as where materials have been sourced, how products have been manufactured, and the miles each item has travelled to end up at retail.

The company tells Products of Change that processes are currently in place to optimise all Danilo product packaging, using more recyclable materials and better designing out waste from the production process. Danilo is also working on partnerships to ensure its products are “as sustainable at the end of their life as they are at the beginning.”

Finally, Danilo is addressing its scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions with new plans to make significant reductions through supply chain engagement and the strategic deployment of offsetting through tree planting schemes here in the UK.

The team has now set an ambitious target to reduce its scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030, working closely with suppliers to embed sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. Digital meetings are also now being encouraged as a way of helping drive down travel emissions among staff.

Finally, Danilo is currently offsetting its 2023 scope 1 and 2 emissions through tree planting programmes in the UK via carbonfootprint.com.

“This has helped us become carbon neutral within those scopes for 2023, planting the seeds (literally!) for a greener future,” said Claire. “And the best part? Our whole team is getting on board. We’re looking into sustainability training to get the Danilo team inspired and informed about how we can make a difference, from designing long-lasting, reusable products to integrating circular economy principles into everything we do.

“This journey is just beginning, but we’re excited to take bold steps toward a Net Zero future and lead the charge in creating a more sustainable world.”
