POC Member, Fabacus, a data-as-a-service technology company for retail and licensing, has announced the launch of its Verified Intellectual Property (VIP) Protocol, with Amazon as its lead launch partner.
VIP creates a secure and standardised way for verified, SKU-level licensed product data to be shared between licensors, licensees and retail platforms, helping officially licensed products to be identified more accurately across marketplaces, social commerce, search engines and AI platforms.
Solving the Industry Challenge: Licensed consumer products sit at the intersection of product identity, intellectual property rights, creative approvals, commerce and consumer trust. Traditional licensing workflows operate across multiple systems and stakeholders, resulting in fragmented, incomplete and often unverifiable product data. Until now, there has been no consistent industry mechanism or infrastructure to ensure that products manufactured under branded IP licences can be reliably identified and verified at SKU level.
VIP introduces a standardised and timely product registration service that captures the right product data at the right time, creating a trusted and verifiable system of record. Through a secure shared protocol, this data can be made available to approved partners, enabling retailers and marketplaces to verify relevant product information and listings, improve the discoverability of officially licensed products and support stronger consumer trust.
Through its proprietary Xelacore platform, Verifiable Product Registration service and Know Your Products (KYP) system, Fabacus has built the infrastructure to make licensed products more identifiable, trustworthy and machine-actionable. This is increasingly important for marketplaces, online retailers, social commerce platforms, search engines and AI-driven or agentic commerce. VIP provides the secure framework through which approved partners can access and use this data to verify licensed product information and listings.
Fabacus is proud to confirm Amazon as the lead launch partner for VIP. The collaboration is intended to bring the licensing industry closer to the retail landscape by making authoritative licensed product data more accessible and usable within commerce environments. Fabacus already works with a significant cross-section of the industry, including Paramount, NBCUniversal, Hasbro, Fanatics, IMG and others, collectively connected to thousands of licensing partners globally, and is working with a growing group of additional partners expected to join VIP in quick succession.
The Key Benefits of VIP are to provide IP owners, legal teams and brand protection partners with authoritative product data to support brand protection efforts across marketplaces and other retail channels. It will help improve the discoverability of officially licensed products, support sales and give consumers greater confidence that products are genuine and authorised. Across the wider licensing ecosystem, VIP will also support seamless and standardised data transfer between existing workflow systems, including contract management, concept approvals, royalty reporting and other industry utilities.
The Key Features of VIP have been designed to support stakeholders across the licensing and retail ecosystem. These include: interoperability by design, enabling different systems to communicate through a shared protocol; a dynamic data model capable of supporting the product attributes required for different use cases; secure, context-aware communication built on modern principles of authentication, authorisation and controlled data exchange; and an extensible architecture designed to evolve with emerging technologies, tools and workflows.
Andrew Xeni, Founder & CEO of Fabacus, stated: “We are incredibly proud to have reached this next phase, reflecting the hard work and collaboration of our clients, customers and partners across the retail landscape. Our mission has always been to establish an industry solution that connects stakeholders, with licensees in mind, by driving standardisation in product registration while supporting existing concept approval and royalty reporting systems. With VIP, and Amazon as our lead launch partner, we are establishing the foundation for a more connected and intelligent ecosystem that enables the licensing industry to work more closely, efficiently and effectively with retail partners globally. Bringing the largest partners in the world closer to this industry is the change we have always aspired to deliver, and this is only the beginning.”
