Sustainable plastic toys conference bio!TOY begins next week

Attend the bio!TOY conference 1-2 April 2025 with an exclusive 20% discount for POC Members.

With plastic a widespread, practical, but contentious material, there has been movement from major toy companies such as Mattel and LEGO to begin the transition to more sustainable alternatives to virgin fossil-derived plastic material. The bio!TOY conference will bring together manufacturers of sustainable plastics and toys to discuss and collaborate on this issue, while sharing the progress that has been made.

Held 1-2 April 2025 in as a hybrid event (on-site and digital) in the Arvena Park Hotel in Nuremberg, Germany, for two days of learning, sharing, and networking. With speakers from LEGO, Viking Toys, Famosa, The Ethical Supply Chain Program, Plastics Europe, Baskem, Borealis, GOWI, Toyi, ISCC, and more, the conference will explore the latest in bio-based and recycled materials, circular design, and evolving regulations for toys.

The fourth bio!TOY will again be held as a hybrid event (on-site and digital) in the Arvena Park Hotel in Nuremberg, Germany.

Recyclability, the use of recycled or renewable raw materials, as well as significantly lower CO2 emissions are important new development goals. After the first three bio!TOY conferences in 2019, 2021, and 2023, the meeting in Nuremberg (hybrid, i.e. on-site and online) is again supported by important industry platforms and interest groups (such as DVSI, Spielwarenmesse, Agency for Renewable resources FNR).

Sonia Sánchez, Impact & Sustainability consultant:

“It is in the toy industry’s DNA that we can’t compromise on safety – a part of this is due to regulations that say, ‘this is the way it needs to be’. Many seem to say ‘sustainability is important but don’t push me too much because we cannot compromise on safety’. I think we need to reframe this mindset – sustainability is safety in the long term. Sustainability and climate change are a matter of safety. The truth is that for some children in countries affected by climate change, it is not even a long-term consideration of safety – it is a matter that affects them today.”
