The Wombles have used their collective might to influence The Westminster Collection to produce its ‘most sustainable coin collection to date’ and mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic characters in true Womble style.
Commemorating 50 years since the Wombles’ first appearance on television, a new collector’s set of 50 pence coins has now been issued featuring full colour illustrations of five of the best-loved Wombles characters.
Great Uncle Bulgaria, Orinoco, Madame Cholet, Tobermory, and Wellington now feature across what has been marked as both The Westminster Collection’s most sustainable coin collection ever created and the first partnership of its kind for the Wombles.
The metal in each of the coins are not only sourced in adherence to EU environmental and ethical guidelines and regulations but use recycled materials as their primary source of precious metal. The creation process sees the recovery of waste metal material re-used while the production consists of the efficient use of wastewater recycling systems.
When it comes to the commemorative collection’s packaging, all material is either recyclable or made from 100% recycled fibres.
“This is the first time we have appeared on a 50p coin – the perfect way to celebrate our 50th anniversary,” said Great Uncle Bulgaria. “We are also delighted to have worked with The Westminster Collection team to produce the most sustainable coin collection ever created by the company.”
