THG has had its Net Zero targets formally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) confirming its ambitions align with the latest climate science aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5-degrees above pre-industrial levels.
As part of the SBTi’s requirements, THG successfully completed and submitted its science-based targets at the end of 2022 when it committed to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 from its 202 base year.
THG Plc also commits that 85% of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution will have science-based targets by 2027. The business also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 emissions by 90% by 2040.
Mark Jones, chief sustainability officer at THG, said: “THG recognises the importance of achieving rapid and substantial emission reductions to cut global emissions in half by 2030 and reach net zero under the Paris climate agreement.
“Since the launch of our sustainability strategy in 2021, we have implemented near-term and long-term company-wide emissions reductions in line with the latest climate science.”
Through its climate strategy, THG x Planet Earth, the business has committed to invest and procure 100% renewable energy to power across global operations by 2030. In September this year, THG was awarded the EMEA Circular Economy Transition of the Year Award for its initiative to turn unused Myprotein products into fish feed.
At the end of October this year, the leading online sports nutrition brand announced its first collaboration with the iconic confectionary brand Chupa Chups to pave the way for several Chupa Chups flavoured products to join the Myprotein range.
The Myprotein x Chupa Chups collaboration will be available on Myprotein.com in the UK and EU starting Autumn 2023, with further flavours and products coming to market in 2024.
Myprotein will be leveraging one of Chupa Chups iconic flavours in ‘Strawberry’ into the brand’s Clear Whey Isolate, one of Myprotein’s best-selling and market leading whey proteins. Clear Whey Chupa Chups Strawberry is high in protein (21g per serving), low in sugar and only 87 calories per serving.
The new partnership follows a series of successful Myprotein confectionary collaborations, including Vimto and Jelly Belly, which have proved hugely popular across the Myprotein community.
