Lush discusses the power of packaging (or none) in the latest episode of the POC Podcast

Ethically- and sustainability-focused cosmetics brand, Lush, joined POC on stage at London Packaging Week to talk all things circularity and storytelling through packaging.

In a special bonus episode of the POC Podcast, live on stage at London Packaging Week, a POC Partner, Steve Sheffield, licensing & commercial partnerships executive at Lush, and Helena Mansell-Stopher, founder and CEO at Products of Change, discussed Lush’s strategic approach to packaging: incorporating it into the consumer experience, as well as removing it entirely.

Titled: Beyond the black pot: How Lush is rethinking products, packaging and circularity, this discussion, hosted live on London Packaging Week’s brand new Podcast Studio stage, asked what happens when one of the world’s most disruptive retailers embraces brand licensing?

When brand licensing is approached as a genuine creative partnership, it can do far more than place a character on an existing product. It can bring together the story, product, ingredients, format, packaging and customer experience to create something completely different.

Through its collaborations with Paramount and other partners, Lush has taken us from SpongeBob’s Krabby Patty and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ pizza box to Paddington’s marmalade sandwich—all while exploring how packaging can be removed, reinvented or made part of the story.

Lush has spent years challenging convention, proving that ethical business and commercial success don’t just sit alongside one another – they can actively strengthen each other. But one of its most exciting chapters is only just beginning. In this live conversation, POC explores how Lush is harnessing the power of brand licensing to reach new audiences, build deeper emotional connections with consumers and tell richer stories through product innovation.

Products of Change is excited to build on its partnership with London Packaging Week to bring this conversation to the stage and share how packaging can be used as a force for good, with a sprinkle of outside of the box thinking, infrastructure investment, and a dose of Lush creativity.

From Intent to Impact, Products of Change’s new podcast series, hosted by POC founder and CEO, Helena Mansell-Stopher, explores what it really takes to change an industry, through honest conversations with the leaders building the systems shaping a better future.
