The international toy company, Playmobil has rebranded its 1,2,3 portfolio of products under a new Playmobil Junior banner with a holistic new approach to sustainability.
The complete Playmobil Junior range will now be produced from plastics which at least 90% can be traced back to materials left over from food or paper production. Playmobil will in fact be adopting the “mass balance” approach to such materials, based on the ISCC 208 standard.
Meanwhile, the business will continue to use at least 90% recycled cardboard and 100% recycled paper for its packaging, to ‘avoid plastic wherever possible.’
The initiative follows the successful introduction of new and more sustainable methods to its product line last year when the Playmobil Wiltopia range launched to market made from over 80% recycled material.
This method of materials use has since been rolled out to numerous Playmobil lines in the UK, including its Playmobil Country collection and select lines in Farm and the Horse World portfolios.
Roger Balser, head of the Playmobil Business Unit, said: “For our customers, sustainability is an important purchase criterion. Our Wiltopia product line, which launched last autumn, is made from over 80% sustainable material. Moreover, Wiltopia stands for a world in which animals and nature is protected and appreciated. Playing and learning is combined in a unique way.”
In June 2022, the Horst Brandstätter Group announced its goal to become climate neutral by 2027, committing to investing €50 million in climate protection over the coming years with plans for closed material cycles in production by 2030.
“Taking responsibility and living up to it sustainably ensures the future viability of our various companies, said Steffen Höpfner, ceo of the Horst Brandstätter Group. “Playmobil in particular has a special social and ecological responsibility. We do not only want to provide children with sustainably manufactured products, but also teach them from an early age how important it is to protect our planet.”
