POC hosted its first Young Green Leaders meeting on Thursday 27th February.
After the debut of the POC Young Green Leaders at the Products of Change Conference 2024, POC is continuing to foster this growing community as interest and momentum for this group grows.
The purpose of the group is to drive connection, education, and motivation, by connecting likeminded young professionals and supporting them to drive sustainability within their career.
It was a fantastic turn-out of 25 young professionals, all with a keen interest in sustainability, and all representing every area and category of the diverse industry that is brand, licensing, and product, from Lego, Mattel and Moose, to Paramount, Bravado and the Natural History Museum.
After a round of introductions of who was in the room, Helena delivered an interactive sustainability 101 workshop to cover some basics but also begin discussions and conversations, such as hopes (and concerns) of what the future could look like by 2050.
About 80% of the group either work in sustainability as their main role, or work in it as part of their role, and on average, the group positioned itself as more clued up on sustainability than not, but with room and appetite to learn more. However, when discussing the primary barriers towards sustainability, either for them or for their industries, the key issues were awareness, knowledge, financial, and availability challenges.
Finally, the group came together to discuss what they would like to learn more about from the topic of sustainability, which was legislation, practical tips and case studies, and how to advise licensees. Then what they would most like to get from participating in the Young Green Leaders, which was networking, collaboration, case studies, and knowledge.
With such engaged participants, we are really looking forward to the next meeting and how the group continues to develop and grow. Thanks to all who came and supported – see you next time!
